Wrote his first play, I Know I've Been Changed, to deal with issues from his childhood. Created the character Madea for the 2000 play I Can Do Bad All by Myself . Published his first book, Don't Make a Black Woman Take Off Her Earrings: Madea's Uninhibited Commentaries on Love and Life, in April 2006. Established the Tyler Perry Foundation to help economically disadvantaged people overcome adversity by achieving a better quality of life.
